Gail Coover, CDH's Faculty Associate for Intercultural Communication, is collaborating with Susan Skochalek, MD, MPH, Dean for Academic Affairs, to develop a course on Intercultural Communication in Health Care.
The course will provide a forum for participants to encounter differences linked to power, culture, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, and professional roles within the context of healthcare. The course will also facilitate development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in support of a personal life learning approach to intercultural communication.
An experiential learning approach will facilitate exploring feelings, thoughts, and attitudes as skill development takes place. The course structure and content draw from research in communication, social influence, and evidence based programming in prevention science in order to support respectful and effective skill development.
The course will be piloted through the Interprofessional Health Committee as an elective in Spring, 2007. For further information about the course and/or its content, please contact Gail Coover at gcoover@wisc.edu or 265-5730.
